The Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech has a grand journey planned, created with a group of collaborative artists who will bring stories from around the world to Blacksburg. From China and Japan, to Germany, Ireland, and Peru, dancers, musicians, vocalists, authors, and actors will take patrons to distant corners of the world for the center’s 2015-16 season.

Travel familiar roads paved with timeless performances. Experience the bold dance exploration of classicism with Alonzo Kind LINES Ballet, the classical works of Haydn by the St. Lawrence String Quartet, the soulful sounds of the American South with Rosanne Cash, and the re-envisioning of a gothic horror classic with L.A. Theatre Works’ production of “Bram Stoker’s Dracula.”

Venture into unimagined territories with performances that create new intersections. Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society brings “Brooklyn Babylon,” a story that unfolds wordlessly through a combination of video animation, live painting onstage, and an original score performed by an 18-piece jazz big band, while Blair Thomas & Co. Puppet Theater recounts the story of “Moby Dick” through bunraku puppets, rolling paper scrolls, and music.

Blending the dialogue, music, interviews, and sound effects he uses to create compelling documentaries, Jad Abumrad, host and creator of the popular public radio program “Radiolab,” brings a solo multimedia exploration that probes the role of uncertainty, fear, and other emotions in the creative process.

Traverse rugged terrain with performances that take movement, athletics, and daring to the extreme. STREB’s “FORCES” weaves dance, athletics, the circus, and Hollywood-style stunt work into one amazing performance, while dance troupe Diavolo returns to the center by popular demand to reinvent dance, reimagine theatre, and redefine thrills.

Explore the full list of events for the 2015-16 season, which features 27 performances by artists and ensembles representing a diverse range of performance and expression.

All performances will be held in the Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre, located within the Moss Arts Center’s Street and Davis Performance Hall at 190 Alumni Mall, unless otherwise noted.

The center is developing exhibitions, community events, and a number of workshops, talks, and related activities.
