Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus 1st Lt. John Goodman, U.S. Army, who earned a degree in history from the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences and a minor in leadership studies from the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Rice Center for Leader Development in 2013, was selected as the Hokie Hero for the football game versus the University of Miami.

The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Hokie Hero program started in 2006 by IMG College, honors Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumni who are currently deployed. Recipients of this honor are highlighted by Jon Laaser and Mike Burnop during the radio broadcast of Virginia Tech football games, on the Corps of Cadets website and in the Corps Review magazine.

Goodman is a Field Artillery officer and after six months training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. He is now deployed to Camp Buehring, Kuwait, where his unit stands ready to deploy anywhere in that area of responsibility to help support Operation Enduring Freedom.

He graduated from the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets in 2013 after serving as the Second Battalion S-3 in the fall semester and then as the Hotel Company commander in the spring of his senior year.

Goodman sends a shout out to his father, Mack Goodman, a Class of 1982 Hokie and his best friend, Justin Agud, Corps of Cadets Class of 2014 saying, “Thank you both for always being there when I needed it."
