Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus Lt. Col. Kelly Dickerson, U.S. Army, who earned a degree in chemistry from College of Science in 1995, was selected as the Hokie Hero for the football game versus Duke University.

The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Hokie Hero program started in 2006 by IMG College, honors Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumni who are currently deployed. Recipients of this honor are highlighted by Jon Laaser and Mike Burnop during the radio broadcast of Virginia Tech football games, on the Corps of Cadets website and in the Corps Review magazine.

Dickerson is deployed for 12 months to Kuwait as a member of Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve.  He is currently serving as the deputy director of operations where he is part of a 60-plus partner nation coalition conducting a counter-terrorism campaign in Iraq and Syria.

He hails from Richmond, Virginia, and is a graduate of the Class of 1995 of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets. As a senior, Dickerson was the commander of First Battalion and a member of the Ranger Company in Army ROTC.

He says he sends his love to his friends and family, gratitude for those serving around the world, and appreciation for the support of the Hokie Nation.
