Crime Alert: Blacksburg Police Department requests assistance

At approximately 9:15 a.m., the Blacksburg Police Department issued the following press release about a suspicious incident.

At approximately 5 a.m., the Blacksburg Police Department responded to the 600 block of Progress Street in reference to a suspicious incident.

Witnesses in the area advised they had heard a woman screaming, but could not ascertain the location it was originating from. Investigation revealed that a woman was seen entering a vehicle during the above time frame in the general area, but it is unknown if she was involved in the incident. She is described as a white female in her early twenties with red tint in her hair.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Blacksburg Police at (540) 961-1150 or anonymously at (540) 961-1819 or by email.

The Virginia Tech Police encourage anyone with any information to contact the Blacksburg Police at the numbers and/or email address listed above and we remind all community members of the following:

  • Be aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts.
  • Call Virginia Tech Police Department if on campus or the Blacksburg Police Department if in town immediately to report all suspicious people and circumstances.
  • Be cautious in confronting suspicious persons
