Virginia Tech will host welcome receptions for two of the newest members of the university’s leadership team. The public is invited to welcome them to the community.

Theresa Mayer, vice president for research and innovation

  • When: Friday, Feb 12, 3 to 5 p.m.
  • Where: Holtzman Alumni Center, 901 Prices Fork Road

Mayer’s appointment began Jan. 18. In her role, Mayer will support the university’s academic research enterprise, while also fostering entrepreneurship and building relationships with corporate, commercial, and foundation partners. She is also a tenured professor in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Previously, Mayer served as a distinguished professor of electrical engineering and materials science and engineering at Penn State, recognized for her research in device nanomanufacturing.

Menah Pratt-Clarke, vice provost for inclusion and diversity and vice president for strategic affairs

  • When: Wednesday, Feb. 24, 3 to 5 p.m.
  • Where: Latham Ballroom, Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center, 901 Prices Fork Road

Pratt-Clarke’s appointment begins today, Feb. 1. In her role, Pratt-Clarke will advance the university’s InclusiveVT efforts, while leveraging organizational resources to achieve inclusion and diversity goals. She will also hold a faculty appointment as professor in the School of Education in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences.

Prior to this role, Pratt-Clarke served as associate provost for diversity at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, serving as an advisor to the chancellor and provost on issues of diversity, governance, and strategic affairs for a decade.

Pratt-Clarke served as the keynote speaker at Virginia Tech’s most recent Advancing Diversity workshop.
