The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets would like to invite all Hokies and the surrounding community to the Upper Quad on Friday, April 29, for a Jazz on the Upper Quad performance.

The Southern Colonels, the Corps of Cadets' 20-piece jazz band, will perform from 7:30-9 p.m. behind Lane Hall at 280 Alumni Mall. The Southern Colonels are one of three ensemble groups of the Highty-Tighties, the corps' regimental band.

The concert is free. Blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged.

The group will play music from the big band swing era, Latin, rock, and other jazz standards.

The student leader of the Southern Colonels is Cadet Christopher Selig of Virginia Beach, Virginia, a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering in the College of Engineering and a member of the Army ROTC. Selig will participate in the Presidential Global Scholars program this summer and is a recipient of the Emerging Leader Scholarship.

The Highty-Tighies will perform again at 1 p.m. May 1 for the annual Spring Concert. The concert will open with the Southern Colonels, followed by the brass quintet and finally the Highty-Tighties concert band. The concert will be in the Haymarket Theatre, located within Squires Student Center at 290 College Ave. This performance is also free and open to all.
