Mark Morrison has joined the advancement team at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine as director of development, with responsibility for raising major gifts and building relationships with prospects and donors.

“We are thrilled to have Mark join our advancement team at Virginia Tech,” said Michael Moyer associate vice president of development for colleges. “He has a strong background in fundraising with proven results and will be a great team member to move the medical school into the future.”

Most recently, Morrison served as vice president of development for HumanKind, a non-profit organization based out of Lynchburg that serves families and adults with intellectual disabilities. During the past eight years at HumanKind, Mark grew total fundraising from $1.2 million to more than $3 million and increased the number of donors by 20 percent, reversing a 50-year decline.

Before that, Morrison spent 20 years with Landmark Communications, the parent company of The Roanoke Times. He started out as a staff writer in 1988 and rapidly took on roles with increasing responsibility, including features editor, advertising operations manager, director of special projects, and New River Valley Bureau chief.

Mark has a bachelor’s degree in print journalism and communications from American University and took graduate courses in creative writing at Virginia Commonwealth University.
