All classes and other activities normally scheduled in Wallace Hall will be held there beginning Friday, Nov. 4.

Building occupants may continue to see workers in an around the building over the next several days, but their work will not impact normal building operations. It is anticipated that the installation of a temporary chiller to restore air conditioning to Wallace Hall will be complete in time for Monday classes. Until this instillation is complete, occupants may notice a slightly elevated room temperature.

Virginia Tech expresses its appreciation to all those affected by this incident for their patience and understanding and to those who worked to make repairs or who provided services and support to minimize the disruption caused by the broken water main.

Nov. 2, 2016
3:30 p.m.

Repairs to electrical and air handling systems in Wallace Hall are substantially complete and the building will open Thursday, Nov. 3 for normal operations beginning at 8 a.m.

Classes regularly scheduled on the first, second, and third floors of Wallace Hall will resume in Wallace beginning Thursday at 8 a.m. Classes held on the fourth floor will  be held at other campus locations (please check the Registrar’s website for alternate sites) with the exception of the food labs (rooms 403 and 405). Food labs held in Rooms 403 and 405 Wallace Hall will be held at that location as scheduled.

Also, on Thursday, Nov. 3, there will be a scheduled power outage lasting two to three hours in parts of the building beginning at 5:30 p.m. Please be prepared should you be in the building at that time. Classes held after 5:30 p.m. in Wallace Hall will be held in other campus locations. Please check the Registrar website for alternate locations for evening classes.

The flu vaccination clinic scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 3, has been moved from Wallace Hall to New Hall West. The clinic will be held from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

The Child Development Center for Learning and Research and the Virginia Tech Adult Day Services will be open Thursday, Nov. 3 normal business hours.

Nov. 1, 2016

Though several utility systems have been restored in Wallace Hall, additional repairs and tests of electrical and air handling systems remain. As a result, Wallace Hall will remained closed on Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Classes normally held in Wallace on Wednesday will be moved to other campus locations. Faculty and students are asked to check the Registrar's website for specific class relocations.

The Child Development Center for Learning and Research and Virginia Tech Adult Day Services will close on Wednesday. Parents of preschool children enrolled in the center will be notified directly by the center staff.

Repairs and systems tests in Wallace Hall are progressing well, but additional work is needed and will continue until completed. Additional updates will be shared through Virginia Tech News.

Oct. 31, 2016 update

Because repairs to electrical and air handling systems are not yet complete, Wallace Hall will remained closed on Tuesday, Nov. 1 .

Classes normally held in Wallace on Tuesday will be moved to alternative locations. Faculty and students are asked to check the Registrar's website for specific class relocations.

The Child Development Center for Learning and Research will be open with some facility limitations. Parents of preschool children enrolled in the center will be notified directly by the center staff.

Virginia Tech Adult Day Services will remain closed on Tuesday, Nov. 1 and all those affected will be notified.

Oct. 30, 2016

Due to a water main break in Wallace Hall over the weekend, there will be changes to the operating status and the relocation of classes normally held in Wallace on Monday, Oct. 31.

Wallace Hall will be closed on Monday with the exception of the Child Development Center for Learning and Research (CDCLR). Classes normally held in Wallace will be moved to alternative locations on Monday. Faculty and students are asked to check the Registrar's website.

The Child Development Center for Learning and Research will be open with some facility limitations. Parents of preschool children enrolled in the center as well as center staff and students will be notified will details.

Virginia Tech Adult Day Services will be closed on Monday and all those impacted will be notified.

Research areas in Wallace Hall that require refrigeration are operational.

Virginia Tech is working to reopen Wallace Hall once it is cleared by Environmental Health and Safety and Emergency Management officials and all systems are fully operational.
