Kevin Jones has been appointed director of the Business Diversity Center in the Department of Management of the Pamplin College of Business.

In his part-time role, Jones will be responsible for the strategic focus of the center and work with other faculty to determine programming and needed financial resources.

The center seeks to contribute to greater understanding of the impact of diversity and multiculturalism on individual effectiveness and corporate competitiveness.

Jones will serve on relevant departmental, college, and university committees and advise affiliated student organizations as they coordinate diversity and inclusion programs, including the annual Pamplin Student Diversity Conference and Case Competition.

He will also teach a course, Design Thinking, next spring.

“Kevin’s experience in design and as an entrepreneur and his desire to work with students make him a great addition to our department,” said Kevin Carlson, management department head. “He will help raise the profile of the Business Diversity Center and of diversity and inclusion in the Pamplin College.”

Jones, a former Virginia Tech and pro football player, recently transitioned out of his position in the Athletics Department as assistant athletics director for special projects and design to devote more time to his Blacksburg-based firm, JoBa Design, and to pursue an MBA from Virginia Tech.

“I am able to practically apply what I learn in the Professional MBA program to my role as CEO, and teach a course in the spring that will allow me to further enhance the student experience in Pamplin,” Jones said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity, and I am excited at what the future holds.”
