With more than 35 years of experience in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and aero-acoustics of gas turbine engines and aero propulsion, Ng and his research team have pioneered applications of active flow and noise control in turbine engines.
In 1998, Ng founded the high-tech company Techsburg Inc., which has grown from two employees to 20. Techsburg is involved in turbomachinery design, testing, and evaluation. Ng’s work with the company included classified and proprietary engineering work for major U.S. engine manufacturers and engineering system integrators, including Northrop Grumman, Pratt & Whitney, Honeywell, and Solar Turbines.
Ng’s work in turbomachinery and propulsion systems has been recognized nationally and internationally through a continual flow of funded grants and contracts, peer-reviewed journal publications, and invitations and participation in a wide range of conferences.
Ng is actively involved in technical societies, and his work is included in a myriad of publications, with more than 250 in the areas of propulsion and gas turbines. He also serves as an advisor to the U.S. government, has given expert testimony to the U.S. Congress, and was a member of the Propulsion Panel of the Aeronautics Advisory Committee for the NASA Office of Aeronautics.
“Ng has made significant contributions to the three primary missions of our university system — teaching, research, and the extension of his technical expertise in the broader engineering community,” wrote Richard Claus, Lewis A. Hester Chair of Engineering Emeritus, in a letter of nomination.
In 2014, Ng received the William E. Wine Teaching Award for excellence in his instructional performance. In 2013, he received the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Research.
