The Virginia Tech College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences has named Daniel Cleveland as its assistant dean of advancement.

Cleveland is the first to serve in the newly created position, which will unite the college’s development, alumni relations, and communications programs with the goals of elevating philanthropic support, enhancing alumni engagement, and raising the college’s profile. He will also develop priorities for Virginia Tech’s capital campaign in collaboration with the college’s dean, administrators, department leaders, and school directors.

“We’re delighted to welcome Dan to our advancement team,” said Rosemary Blieszner, dean of the college. “His professional successes have clearly shown his dedication to both the art and science of philanthropy. And his personal commitment to the liberal arts will be a tremendous asset as he shares the rich stories of our college.”

Cleveland most recently served as executive director of major and planned gifts at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. His earlier positions at Bradley included senior director of development in the Foster College of Business, where he led a $100 million building campaign, and director of development in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Before joining Bradley, Cleveland worked at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. There he served as director of advancement for both the College of Arts and Sciences and Athletics, assistant director of admissions in the College of Arts and Sciences, and an admissions counselor.

“Dan is a seasoned advancement leader, with more than a dozen years of experience in higher education, and his deep appreciation of the liberal arts aligns perfectly with the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences,” said Michael Moyer, associate vice president of development for colleges. “He will do an excellent job in continuing the strong work of creating a culture of philanthropy and engagement in the college.”

Cleveland holds bachelor’s degrees in literature and theatre from Pacific University and a master of business administration degree from Bradley University.
