To the Virginia Tech community,

Welcome back. I hope you enjoyed spring break! This is a great time of year on campus. Spring is just around the corner and the last few weeks of the academic year are in view. I hope you feel energized and excited by the possibilities ahead.

This year the first day of spring will represent more than just a new season of growth on our beautiful campus. Next Tuesday, March 20th, we will launch a new and important Virginia Tech tradition: Giving Day. Starting at noon, the 24-hour event will seek to inspire thousands of Hokies across Virginia and around the world to demonstrate their spirit of Ut Prosim and support for Virginia Tech’s mission to make our world a better place.

Strong philanthropic giving is an essential part of any great university. For faculty, staff, and students, it is a way of investing in our own success. For parents and friends, it deepens the connection to our Hokie family. For alumni, it is an opportunity to give back to the institution that supported their achievements and to create opportunities for the next generation of Hokies.

Our sister institutions have been holding successful Giving Day events for many years, and it’s time to show them what we can do. The strong attachment of alumni and friends to Virginia Tech is evident in every survey, and we are hoping to see thousands of Hokies participate in our first-ever Giving Day. We will be counting how many chip in, regardless of the amount.  Every gift and every donor will make our university greater and show the world how much Hokies believe in Virginia Tech’s future.

I encourage you to learn more about our first annual Giving Day and to consider how you can support our success as an ambassador and a donor. Thank you for everything you do to support Virginia Tech.
