Steven Janosik, associate professor of higher education in the School of Education in the Virginia Tech College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, has been conferred the title of associate professor emeritus by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

The emeritus title may be conferred on retired professors, associate professors, and administrative officers who are specially recommended to the board by Virginia Tech President Tim Sands. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board receive an emeritus certificate from the university.

A member of the university community since 1979, Janosik has made significant contributions to the field of higher education administration through his scholarship in higher education law, specifically on campus crime, the Clery Act, college administration, policy, liability and risk management, and professional standards and ethics.

Janosik served as an executive board member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators and the Association for Student Judicial Affairs. He also served as the editor of the Journal of College and University Housing, and he served on the media board and as reviewer for numerous other journals.

At Virginia Tech, Janosik served as associate director of the School of Education; faculty chair of the Department of Leadership, Counseling, and Research; program coordinator for the Higher Education Program; associate dean of students and director of judicial programs; and associate director for residence life.

In the classroom, he taught a variety of graduate courses across the higher education program’s curriculum. He advised numerous students with their dissertations and helped them develop successful careers in both academic and corporate settings.

Janosik received his bachelor’s degree and Ed.D. from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree from the University of Georgia.
