Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! Whether you are about to embark upon your first semester (Hello #VT22) or your last (congrats, seniors), the Hokie Nation is so glad you are here. As you know, Virginia Tech is a special place — a place that fosters community in hopes that everyone finds a sense of belonging and connectedness that are essential to learning.

As your vice president for Student Affairs, I want you to know there are literally thousands of individuals whose work is to help you thrive. We know that learning happens everywhere, both inside and outside the classroom. Student Affairs creates programs, offers experiences, and provides services that enhance and complement your educational opportunities. We collaborate with others inside the university and with entities beyond our campus perimeter to make the Hokie student experience as personally enlightening as it is academically rewarding.

Grounded in the Aspirations for Student Learning and led from a strengths-based approach, our work is to support you as you become successful and effective servant-leaders in an emerging global marketplace. As I said at Orientation and other forums, you have the opportunity to find and define yourself at Virginia Tech. We will help you ensure your own well-being, while maximizing your time and capitalizing on numerous opportunities for academic success and personal growth. In short, Student Affairs wants to co-create with you the kind of community where you can discover and live your strengths in order to personally, intentionally, and fully ExperienceVT.

Our work is committed to your growth, development, and achievement at Virginia Tech. Let’s Go, Hokies!

Welcome home,

Patricia A. Perillo,

Vice President for Student Affairs
