The next art show at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine will feature works of art that illustrate the influence of women. An open call is underway now through Oct. 12 for artists to submit pictures of artwork they would like to have considered for the exhibition. Local artists, community members, students, and faculty are all invited to participate.

The school’s fall/winter show runs from Nov. 5, 2018, to March 1, 2019. An open house is scheduled for Dec. 4 from 4 to 7 p.m., and the public is invited to attend.

Titled “The Influence of Women,” the show will explore and celebrate the many different ways women affect their worlds. The focus of the show was developed in appreciation for the school’s founding dean, Cynda Johnson, who will retire at the end of the year. The show will also feature works by Hollins University students.

Sponsored by the school’s Creativity in Healthcare Education program, the exhibition is one of three held annually for local artists to showcase their works to the community and to reinforce to medical students the importance of having a community connection.

Photos of artwork should be submitted for consideration to Courtney Powell by Friday, Oct. 12 at 5 p.m. Applications and lending agreements will follow once submissions are approved. If selected, artwork needs to be delivered to the school no later than Oct. 26. If you have questions, please contact Powell by email or phone at 540-526-2588.
