Virginia Tech Facilities had a busy summer.

From improved auditorium seating, to new flooring, stairwell replacements, roofs, and more, the facilities department completed a wide range of renovation and construction projects throughout the summer and early fall. These improvements will help enhance the campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors for years to come.

Completed projects include:

Interior improvements:

  • Holden Hall Auditorium: New seating installed and carpet replaced.
  • McBryde Auditorium: New flooring installed.
  • Pamplin 2030 Auditorium: New seating installed, carpet replaced, and power outlets installed at each seat.
  • Durham Hall: Replacement of stair treads and stairwell landing flooring.
  • Lane Hall: Replacement of stair treads within all five bays; first floor corridor carpet replaced throughout.
  • Whittemore Hall: Ceilings and lighting fixtures replaced throughout first, second, and third floors.
  • Preston’s Restaurant at the Inn at Virginia Tech: Improved facilities that will enhance the dining experience for restaurant patrons.


Exterior improvements:

  • Derring Hall: Hokie Stone pointing completed.
  • Hahn Tunnel: Waterproofing of pedestrian tunnel completed.
  • Old Security Building: Fascia replacement completed.
  • Prices Fork Research Buildings: Exterior repairs completed for (5) CALS building.
  • Seitz Hall: Roof replacement completed.


In addition, in August 2018, Facilities completed a $21.5 million O’Shaughnessy Hall renovation project. The 69,211-square-foot residence hall welcomed 335 students for the 2018-19 academic year as the Leadership and Social Change Residential College. Renovation highlights include a wide range of upgrades such as A/C, WiFi, energy-efficient windows, and ADA-compliant student rooms, restrooms, and common interior and exterior spaces.
