Kerone Wetter joins University Relations in the National Capital Region

Kerone Wetter has been named assistant director of communications for the National Capital Region (NCR), effective Oct. 29.
Reporting to the Vice President for the NCR Steve McKnight and the Senior Assistant Vice President for University Relations Tracy Vosburgh, she will work with University Relations and campus communications offices to evaluate and develop a comprehensive communications and marketing program to raise the awareness of Virginia Tech in the NCR.
Wetter will also work closely with units and communicators across the campus to leverage central services in support of media relations, social media, website management, e-newsletters, Virginia Tech News, photography, video production, publishing, and campus-wide strategic communications planning.
“Kerone brings a breadth of communication talent and experience to Virginia Tech that is critical to supporting the continued growth of the National Capital Region,” said McKnight. “The relationships she has built in Northern Virginia and her understanding of the market will greatly help Virginia Tech to highlight its many contributions to and its approaching 50-year presence in the region. I am excited to have Kerone here and to work with her to further elevate Virginia Tech’s service and impacts in the National Capital Region.”
Prior to coming to Virginia Tech, Wetter had served as the assistant director of marketing and communications for the College of Science at George Mason University since 2016, where she managed the college’s creative services team, marketing operations, and digital communications. She led the creation and direction of the college’s science communication scholarship competition and various other university initiatives, including George Mason’s coordinated 2018 exhibition at the USA Science and Engineering Festival in Washington, D.C.
Wetter worked as the web strategist for Mason’s College of Science from 2013 to 2016, where she created the college’s content strategy. Before her career in higher education, she served as marketing and communications associate for the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers during the Affordable Care Act vote and implementation, the 2011 tsunami and nuclear disaster in Japan, and the launch of the association magazine’s website.
Wetter earned a Bachelor of Science degree in design and environmental analysis from Cornell University in 2009 and an MBA from George Mason University in 2017.
