Virginia Tech earns 'Best for Vets' designation from Military Times
October 31, 2018
Military Times, an online and printed source for independent news for service members and their families, has designated Virginia Tech a “Best for Vets” institution for the first time ever.
The designation was earned as the result of a rigorous evaluation of Virginia Tech’s operations involving current and former service members and their families. Military Times asks participating colleges and universities to disclose academic outcome and input data, describe many aspects of veteran culture on campus and meticulously document a wide array of services, special policies, accommodations, and financial incentives offered to students with military ties.
Virginia Tech’s Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs, Office of Veterans Services, and Office of Institutional Research worked together to complete the extensive and thorough survey process on behalf of Virginia Tech.
“While we have many partners across the university, I’d like to give special recognition to Jerry Headley, Juan Cordero-Sierra, and Amber Snider, all from the Office of Veterans Services, for their efforts in earning this distinction,” said Rachel Holloway, vice provost for undergraduate academic affairs. “Among many other services, this team works hard to certify benefits and respond to state and federal audits, meet with veterans and families to navigate the Veterans Administration, work with prospective students during recruiting events, and offer specialized sessions during new student orientation.
“Although we’re pleased with the recognition that Virginia Tech has earned, we continue to look for opportunities to provide more and better support for all our student veterans and military-connected students.”
The Best for Vets recognition from Military Times joins Virginia Tech’s recent Top 50 national ranking from U.S. News & World Report as a “best colleges for veterans.” To view the full list of Military Times Best for Vets rankings, visit their RebootCamp information and resource website.
