Update: 3:30 p.m.

It is anticipated that the Blacksburg campus of Virginia Tech will be open during normal hours on Tuesday, Dec. 11. Should conditions change overnight making it necessary to delay the opening of the university, a decision will be made before 5 a.m. and will be communicated via VT Alerts.

Should a delayed opening occur, information on an adjusted exam schedule will be available at www.registrar.vt.edu/exams which will be linked from the University Status page.

Again, to remind faculty, exams and other activities should not be held prior to the university being open.

A VT Alert will only be issued if there is a delayed opening. If no alert is issued, it means that campus is open and operating on normal hours.

The National Weather Service is currently forecasting a winter weather event for the Blacksburg and Roanoke areas for Dec. 8-10.

In anticipation of wintry weather beginning in the early morning hours of Sunday, Dec. 9, Virginia Tech has put snow emergency routes in effect starting 11 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8.

This designation goes into effect prior to road conditions deteriorating to support snow removal and emergency vehicle movement.

Potential parking and bus route impacts

When a Snow Route Emergency is declared, certain roads on campus must remain open for emergency vehicle use. All vehicles parked along five roads (parallel and diagonal) must be removed or they will be towed at owner's expense.

Please visit the Campus winter weather traffic and parking emergency procedures page to learn if your parking is impacted.
