More than 2,400 Hokies will graduate on Friday during Virginia Tech’s fall commencement ceremonies, held in Cassell Coliseum.

The University Commencement Ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m., and the Graduate School Commencement starts at 2:30 p.m. The events will honor approximately 2,441 students who completed their academic degrees during the summer and fall terms.

Virginia Tech will offer live streaming video of the Graduate School Commencement and University Commencement from the Virginia Tech commencement site. Use #Hokiegrad for all social media posts related to commencement.

During the University Commencement Ceremony, 1,380 undergraduates will be recognized for earning bachelor’s degrees. See a full listing of undergraduates receiving degrees at Friday's ceremony.

Josiah Showalter Jr. ’84, chief judge for the 27th Judicial Circuit of Virginia and an instructor of business law in the Pamplin College of Business, will speak at the ceremony.

Of the graduates, 372 earned a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.

Computer science is the most popular major, followed by business information technology and electrical engineering. The largest number of graduates, a total of 335, hail from the College of Engineering.

Additionally, Virginia Tech’s six other colleges will award the following bachelor’s degrees to summer and fall graduates:

College of Agriculture and Life Sciences: 153

College of Architecture and Urban Studies: 72

Pamplin College of Business: 230

College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences: 275

College of Science: 244

College of Natural Resources and Environment: 71

Virginia Tech will recognize 1,200 summer and fall graduates during the Graduate School Commencement. Bill Hopkins, professor of wildlife in the College of Natural Resources and Enviroment, will speak during the ceremony.

The graduate degree candidates include 781 master’s degrees, 20 education specialist degrees, 260 Ph.D.s, and five doctors of education. See a full listing of students receiving degrees at the Graduate School ceremony.  

A total of 154 students will receive advanced graduate certificates.
