Rodgers + Hammerstein’s “Cinderella,” the 2013 Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, comes to the Moss Arts Center for one evening only on March 6. Part of the center’s 2018-2019 “Broadway in Blacksburg” series, tickets for the performance go on sale on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 10 a.m.

With its fresh new take on the beloved tale of a young woman who is transformed from a chambermaid into a princess, this lush production of “Cinderella” features an incredible orchestra, jaw-dropping transformations, and all the story’s classic moments — the pumpkin, the glass slipper, the masked ball, and more — plus some surprising new twists.

More than just a pretty face with the right shoe size, this Cinderella is a contemporary figure living in a fairytale setting. A spirited young woman with savvy and soul, she embarks on a quest for kindness, compassion, and forgiveness, and longs to escape the drudgery of her work at home to make the world a better place. She not only fights for her own dreams, but forces the prince to open his eyes to the world around him and realize his own dreams.

Be transported back to childhood and rediscover some of the beloved songs created by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible/It’s Possible,” and “Ten Minutes Ago.” Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” was written for television and debuted in 1957 starring Julie Andrews. In 2013 the show made its Broadway debut. Along with “Cinderella,” Rodgers and Hammerstein's legendary musicals include “OKLAHOMA!,” “Carousel,” “The King and I,” “South Pacific,” and “The Sound of Music.”
