Media Invite: On the Record with Virginia Tech

While the Washington D.C. area continues to boom with tech jobs, the region still does not have enough talent to meet demand.

To solve the workforce problem, Virginia is investing $1.1 billion in higher education to drive growth that will fuel the tech-talent pipeline. As the nation’s 5th largest producer of engineering and STEM-related graduates, Virginia Tech is uniquely qualified to support the rapid expansion of the tech sector and meet new industry demands.

Please join Virginia Tech’s Dean of Engineering Julia Ross to learn how the university will help transform and sustain Northern Virginia as a leading magnet for tech talent and innovation that supports business growth and fosters economic opportunity for the region.

When: Wednesday, April 24 from 12 noon – 1 p.m. (doors open at 11:30 a.m.)

Where: Virginia Tech Research Center
900 North Glebe Road - 2nd Floor
Arlington, VA  22203

Background: In efforts to attract Amazon to the region, the state’s recently-approved higher education package includes support for Virginia Tech to build a new Innovation Campus in Alexandria. The $1 billion Innovation Campus will offer leading graduate programs in computer science and software engineering. The campus was announced in November, when Virginia emerged as a winner in the nationwide competition to house a second headquarters for Amazon in Arlington.

Boxed lunches will be provided.

Please RSVP by April 19 to Lindsey Haugh, communications director for the College of Engineering at lhaugh@vt.edu.
