Becky Freemal has joined the Pamplin College of Business as its director of communication and marketing.

In her new role, Freemal will lead an integrated communication and marketing plan to grow the college’s progress toward building the Global Business and Analytics Complex and secure Virginia Tech as an international leader in data analytics and decision sciences. She will be responsible for cohesive messaging that emphasizes the college’s mission to lead technology and business intelligence while building entrepreneurship, innovation, and a collaborative community.

Freemal comes to the Pamplin College of Business after two years as the director of communication and creative services at the Biocomplexity Institute of Virginia Tech, where she built an integrated communication strategy to help researchers earn regional, national, and international media placements; led an aggressive web project to increase search engine optimization; and carried out the first-ever Facebook live research symposium at the institute to increase message reach.

Prior to her time at Virginia Tech, Freemal spent more than 20 years in broadcast news as an anchor, reporter, and manager. During her time as a journalist, her work was recognized with an Emmy and national and regional Edward R. Murrow awards for the importance and impact of journalism as a service to the community.

Freemal is not only a member of the professional team at the Pamplin College of Business, but also a student in the college’s professional MBA program.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in communication at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
