Katie Gehrt has joined the Moss Arts Center as its director of marketing and communication, leading the marketing, communication, and patron services operations.

A key member of the center’s senior management team, Gehrt brings more than 20 years of marketing and communication experience, including almost 15 years of prior work at Virginia Tech. In her new role, she is responsible for the overall branding and messaging for the center and will help define policy and set strategic priorities for a number of initiatives.

“We’re thrilled to have Katie join our team as we continue to establish ourselves as a prominent part of campus and the community,” said Ruth Waalkes, executive director of the Moss Arts Center and associate provost for the arts at Virginia Tech. “With her unique experience as a leader, creative problem solver, and connector, combined with her expertise in targeted marketing and integrated communication, Katie is helping us find even more dynamic ways to connect with our patrons and community.”

Gehrt will also help promote the work happening at the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT) and provide support for key initiatives associated with the associate provost for the arts.

Prior to joining the center, Gehrt served as the director of marketing at NewCity, a full-service digital agency, where she was part of the senior leadership team and led strategies to raise awareness, drive new business, and strengthen client relationships.

During her previous tenure at Virginia Tech, she served as communications director for the College of Architecture and Urban Studies and assistant director of communications and marketing for the Division of Student Affairs, overseeing public relations and graphic design and providing marketing strategy for the various departments within the division. She also served as North American public relations and advertising manager for Alltech, a global animal health and nutrition company headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky.

Gehrt holds a bachelor of arts in graphic design and a bachelor of science in psychology from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree in integrated marketing communications from West Virginia University.
