On Nov. 20, 2019, the Virginia Tech Police Department received three reports of larceny which occurred in non-residential buildings on the Blacksburg campus. The circumstances surrounding the larcenies are similar and appear to be related. The victims of these larcenies have incurred financial losses in excess of $2,000. The Virginia Tech Police Department has developed a person of interest in these cases, and is seeking the community’s assistance in identifying him. The police department has issued a crime alert to the community warning of this activity and offering tips that are recommended in safeguarding personal property.

Pictures of the person of interest will be released through the Virginia Tech Police Department’s social media.

Anyone with information related to the identity of the person of interest, or in regards to the larcenies, is asked to contact Detective J.C. Waid at 540-231-6790 or by contacting the police department at 540-382-4343. Information can also be submitted by emailing vtpolice@vt.edu or anonymously at https://police.vt.edu/anonymous.html or via the LiveSafe mobile app (for Android and iPhone devices).

All members of the university community are reminded to lock the doors to their residences, offices, and workspaces when out of the room or overnight. All personal items in an unlocked environment can become easy targets and an unlocked door can be an invitation to a thief.
