Unable to currently provide arts experiences in its usual way, the Moss Arts Center is now offering inspiring performances and engagement opportunities virtually. Join the center online, where it’s hosting special viewings of past performances and moderated virtual chat sessions.

The center is opening its vault of archival footage to feature some of the unforgettable music, dance, and theater performances it has presented over the past seven years. Free to access, a new Moss Vault performance will be online every Monday at 5 p.m. and be available for two days only.

The first performance goes live April 6, at 5 p.m. and features Brooklyn-based orchestra The Knights and acclaimed violinist Gil Shaham, who performed at the Moss in 2016.

Shaham’s exploration of the violin concertos of the 1930s spurred a collaboration between the violinist and the orchestra, resulting in a recording of Prokofiev’s G Minor Violin Concerto, which is part of the performance. The Knights also perform Rebel’s “Les Caractères de la Danse” and Symphony no. 3, op. 55, “Eroica,” by Beethoven.

Future Moss Vault showings will include archived performances from “Vocalosity,” BeijingDance/LDTX, and the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra.

Virtual Salon Chats

A series of free Virtual Salon Chats provides opportunities to actively connect and build community at a time when conversation and interaction is most needed. Moderated by Moss staff members, a variety of topics are being offered, from moments that sparked participants’ love of the arts to a time a creative risk was taken. Using the free videoconferencing platform Zoom, fellow arts lovers can meet for lively conversations and share their ideas, opinions, and experiences. Each session is limited to 10 participants and online registration is required. Upcoming dates, times, and topics, as well as details about using Zoom, are available on the Moss Arts Center website.
