Thomas Richard Sallade, of Blacksburg, age 59, passed away suddenly on May 27, 2020.

Sallade was a dedicated member of the Virginia Tech Facilities Department grounds beautification team who took great care in helping to maintain the treasured flower beds, plant life, lawns, and trees so deeply connected to the Blacksburg campus’ unique sense of place.

Sallade joined the grounds beautification team in October 2018 after retiring from a 28-year career at Southern States.

He was a graduate of Hampton Roads Academy and Virginia Tech. He was member of the Virginia Tech Class of 1988.

He loved music and singing, all things Hokies, the Dallas Cowboys, fireworks, astronomy, thunderstorms, and being on the water.

He leaves behind his wife, LeeAnne, and his children, Adam, who serves as an HR Service Center representative at Virginia Tech; Emily, an advancement associate with Virginia Tech Student Affairs; and Brice.

He is survived by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Richard L. Sallade; sister, Linda Madler; and brothers, Ray Sallade and Ross Sallade.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be announced at a later date.
