Virginia Tech will now celebrate Homecoming Oct. 11-17.

Students, alumni, community members, and friends can participate in Homecoming through a variety of virtual events. Going online means Homecoming can be celebrated by Hokies everywhere.

The new date comes after changes to the football schedule. Homecoming will now culminate on Oct. 17 when the Hokies are scheduled to play Boston College.

The student-led Homecoming Board partners with organizations across campus to carry out a week of Homecoming events. On-campus in-person alumni events will not be held this year, but instead digital offerings are being planned, including ways to have fun, learn, and give back.

While Homecoming will look different this year, many traditional Homecoming celebrations will still happen. But because of the risk that large, in-person gatherings pose events will be virtual. The Homecoming Board will host virtual events, including Homecoming’s Got Talent competition, an alumni panel, and a spirit day competition.

Virginia Tech will adhere to state and local guidelines to help stem the spread of COVID-19 and all Hokies must do their part to keep our community safe. The university and the Town of Blacksburg recently prohibited tailgating during the fall season in university and town parking lots and public spaces. Virginia Tech Athletics continues to work through the plans for the fall, guided by health guidelines.
