Feb. 19 updates

  • Due to inclement weather conditions, the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg will open at 9 a.m. today.
  • Blacksburg Transit buses will run their regular schedules today. Check the Blacksburg Transit site updates or changes.
  • Due to the delay in opening, the ArcPoint COVID-19 testing clinic at Lane Stadium will begin at 9 a.m. Testing appointments prior to that time will need to be rescheduled for next week.   
  • Schiffert Health Center will open at 9 a.m. Students who are experiencing symptoms should contact Schiffert to be tested for COVID-19 once they are open.

The Alson H. Smith Jr. AREC will be closed today.

Feb. 18, 2021, 8:28 p.m.

The Eastern Virginia AREC will operate on a two-hour delay Friday.

The Equine Medical Center in Leesburg will open for outpatient appointments and elective cases at 10 a.m. Friday.

The Southern Piedmont AREC will be closed Friday.

6:31 p.m.

Due to inclement weather conditions, the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg will open at 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, 2021.

All classes, regardless of modality (in person, hybrid or online) that start prior to 9 a.m. are canceled. All classes starting after 9 a.m. will be held as scheduled.

University staff designated emergency personnel must report as instructed by their supervisor.

Non-emergency personnel who telework on authorized telework arrangements are expected to continue working their normal schedule during an authorized closing and will not receive compensatory leave. Non-emergency personnel who work onsite, but whose work site is closed due to the inclement weather, do not need to report to work. These employees will receive compensatory leave.

The Alson H. Smith Jr. AREC in Winchester is closed today.

Feb. 17, 11:09 p.m.

Virginia Tech sites in Alexandria, Arlington, and Falls Church will be closed Thursday. All day and evening classes, regardless of modality (in person, hybrid or online) have been canceled. University events scheduled for Thursday are canceled.  This includes the planned COVID-19 testing clinic in Arlington. 

The Eastern Virginia AREC will be closed Thursday.

7:28 p.m.

The Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC, the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, the Animal Cancer Care and Research Center, and other academic units located at the Health Sciences and Technology campus at Riverside Circle in Roanoke will be closed on Thursday.

7:02 p.m.

The Southern Piedmont Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Blackstone will be closed Thursday.

4:07 p.m.

The ArcPoint COVID-19 testing clinic at Lane Stadium will be canceled on Feb. 18 due to inclement weather. Those who have testing appointments scheduled for this day will need to reschedule their appointment to next week.

Schiffert Health Center will operate on a reduced hours schedule from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Students who are experiencing symptoms should contact Schiffert to be tested for COVID-19 during those hours.

The Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center in Leesburg, Virginia, will be closed for outpatient appointments and elective cases on Thursday, Feb. 18. Essential personnel should report as scheduled. The center will be open for emergency cases and staffed to attend to our current inpatients.

Blacksburg Transit has canceled service for Feb. 18. See updates at ridebt.org.

The physical offices for Cook Counseling are closed. Clinicians will work using the telehealth platform provided there is power and/or internet capability. Virginia Tech has put snow emergency routes in effect on the Blacksburg campus starting at 5 p.m. today. No new parking will be allowed along these routes beginning at 5 p.m.
