Viswanath Venkatesh named Verizon Professor

Viswanath Venkatesh, who joined the Department of Business Information Technology in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech in early 2021, has been named the Verizon Professor by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
The Verizon Professorship in Business Information Technology was established in 1983 to recognize the collaborative relationship between Verizon and the Pamplin College of Business. It is awarded to recognize teaching and research excellence.
Venkatesh has published more than 100 journal articles in various fields, including human-computer interaction, information systems, organizational behavior, psychology, marketing, medical informatics, and operations management. He is also among the most widely cited scholars, with more than 116,000 citations per Google Scholar and several high-impact papers. Venkatesh was previously on the faculty at the University of Arkansas and University of Maryland.
Venkatesh has been regarded as a highly effective teacher and mentor throughout his career. He has been involved in information systems program and curriculum revisions at two universities and has chaired the dissertation committees of seven successful students.
He has served in many editorial roles and has been an invited speaker at numerous international conferences and universities to discuss his interests in the diffusion of technologies in organizations and society.
Venkatesh received a Ph.D. in information and decision sciences from the University of Minnesota.
