Josh Caldwell recognized for can-do attitude and customer service

Virginia Tech employee Josh Caldwell is well known by his colleagues as the go-to person for many things.
Caldwell is a trade technician in the preventative maintenance area of the Facilities Department. His day-to-day responsibilities include supporting his colleagues by ensuring those folks servicing the equipment have what they need to do their jobs, including tools, parts and equipment. In addition to working with vendors, placing orders, and delivering materials to more than 125 buildings on the university’s Blacksburg campus, Caldwell assists preventative maintenance mechanics when an extra pair of hands are required. Caldwell requests and delivers approximately 1,100 orders per year.
He’s well-known by his colleagues and customers as a positive, easy going and service-oriented person who responds quickly to phone calls and emails from folks to make sure they have what they need as quickly as possible to ensure a high quality of customer service for students and employees.
“Josh is one of the most important parts of our preventative maintenance programs,” said Harley Ashe, his supervisor. “If he were to leave, repairs to campus building would slow down considerably.”
“All the colleagues think the world of him because he is so easy to work with and makes their jobs easier by getting them what they need quickly,” added Ashe.
Before moving into his current position in 2013, Caldwell worked in the university’s indoor air quality shop for 10 years. He came to Virginia Tech from a local electrical supply company.
In recognition of his commitment to the university’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve), Caldwell has been recognized as the 2015 Facilities Department Employee of the Year. He was chosen from among 11 other facilities employees who were recognized as employees of the month during the 2014-15 academic year. There are more than 400 employees in the Facilities Department who are eligible.
