During New Cadet Week, first-year cadets will be taught everything from military training — how to salute, to march and perform drill, to wear uniforms properly — to life skills of this inclusive and diverse Hokie community.
The trip, hosted by the Black Male Excellence Network, provided a way for students to travel abroad and connect with fellow Hokies. Money raised through the JUMP crowdfunding campaign covered most of the expenses for students.

“The faculty principal position provides an opportunity to be an active intellectual mentor for students beyond the typical contact time a normal faculty-student relationship would allow,” said C.L. Bohannon. “For me, it was being able to have a deeper level of engagement with the students to work on real issues that our society faces."

Havens Gerardo’s journey through education brought her to Virginia Tech in August 2017 as vice provost for enrollment management.
