BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Dr. Buddy Howell is an advanced instructor in the School of Communication at Virginia Tech. He also created what is known as their “H.U.G. Program,” or “Hokie Undergraduate Groups. ” H.U.G. Leaders help ease the transition into college for first-year students. In addition to receiving the University Sporn Award for excellence in teaching introductory subjects last year, he was recently recognized by the Office of First-Year Experiences for excellence in teaching first-year seminars at Virginia Tech.
