New Poll Shows Clinton Leads Among Virginia Voters

Christopher Newport University

Hillary Clinton continues to lead Donald Trump here in Virginia, according to a new poll from Christopher Newport University.

A majority of voters in Virginia think Trump is a racist. So that’s bad news for Trump, but the survey also has some bad news for Clinton. Most voters think she can’t be trusted with classified information. Rachel Bitecofer is assistant director at the Wason Center for Public Policy, which conducted the poll.

“I think this ties in to what we’ve been seeing in earlier Wason Center polls, other polls across the nation, state specific and national polls, that voters are not pleased with either of the two party’s nominees and for very different reasons."

For Trump, it’s his temperament. For Clinton, it’s ethics. Robert Denton at Virginia Tech says he understands why the poll also gives the edge to Trump among military voters in Virginia.

“In anecdotal discussions with some of the military folks here at Virginia Tech, there’s no question that they have some concern, but they clearly favor Trump over Clinton even in some of the conversations I’ve had."

The poll also found that millennial voters in Virginia favor Libertarian Gary Johnson over Trump. Overall the poll gives Clinton a six point lead in the state. That’s just outside the margin of error for the poll, which was plus or minus four points.
