BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia Tech along with consulting partner Sasaki were honored with the Excellence in Planning for an Existing Campus Merit Award for the Virginia Tech 2018 Campus Master Plan.

The master plan was recognized at the annual conference in July for the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP).

The 2018 Campus Master Plan was approved by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors in November and guides current and future campus leaders as they continue to develop the Blacksburg campus as well as the university’s 11 agricultural research and Extension centers through the year 2047.

Over the last two decades, the Blacksburg campus has expanded by 4.6 million gross square feet with plans for up to an additional 7 million gross square feet growth over the next 30 years.

The master plan provides recommendations to guide decision making around building design, building siting and anticipated infrastructure needs to support additional expansion possibilities in the future, including deep analysis of supporting infrastructure, such as transportation, accessibility, utilities and stormwater as well as assets belonging to the university which exists beyond Montgomery County.
