New and improved Student Code of Conduct to replace Hokie Handbook

From: Student Affairs

In 2019, the Office of Student Conduct was tasked with a thorough review of the Student Code of Conduct and its placement within the Hokie Handbook.

The Student Code of Conduct outlines policies established by the university that set standards for students’ non-academic behavior, along with procedures for adjudicating and sanctioning violations of these standards.

The document has been revised to improve clarity, to update policies and processes, and to include an expanding and diverse population of students across all Virginia Tech campuses and programs. It will now be a separate, stand-alone document, and the Hokie Handbook will be retired. Policies and procedures formerly housed in the Hokie Handbook, such as policies associated with specific departments, including Housing and Dining, will now be available through the departments’ respective websites and linked within the Student Code of Conduct.

The revision was reviewed through the university’s governance process in spring 2019, with input from students, faculty, and staff.  The Board of Visitors approved the improved Code at the Board’s June 2020 meeting.

The Code will be housed on the Student Code of Conduct website.
