Use the free Clifton StrengthsFinder to unlock your potential

A student looks down at a nametag he's wearing that lists his top five strengths

From: Student Affairs

Our culture has a bad habit of focusing on the negatives—what could be better, what needs work, what we’re not good at. We get bogged down by our failures and struggle to see the positives.

Let’s flip that perspective, Hokies.

Virginia Tech has a unique partnership with Gallup, and we’re offering the Clifton StrengthsFinder® assessment free of charge to all Virginia Tech students, faculty, and staff.

You read that right. Free.

Join more than 33,000 Hokies who have discovered their strengths. All it takes is about 30 minutes of uninterrupted time, and the assessment will provide you with your “top five.” These five themes, set apart from a list of 34 and formulated by a mysterious, research-based, and creepily accurate algorithm, explain what you’re innately good at.

Here's your task:

  1. Chin up. Let’s talk strengths, not weaknesses!
  2. Visit the Strengths portal. Sign in using your PID and password and take the Clifton StrengthsFinder® assessment. (If you’ve already taken the assessment through the Virginia Tech portal, your top five will show up after you log in to the portal.)
  3. Take a screenshot of your results or go old-school and jot down your top five.
  4. Embrace them, learn about them, and see how Strengths can help you and our university thrive.
