Come Work for Dining Services!
From: Dining Services
Are you looking for a job with flexible hours? Do you love to cook and work with food? Dining Services is accepting applications for a wide range of shifts and job descriptions, and is offering you the chance to join one of the top campus dining programs in country!
“This is a great opportunity for career development for anyone interested in working in food service,” said Laura Pontier, assistant director of operations development. “Because of the size of Dining Services, there’s real possibility for promotions and growth. We have many people here who started in wage positions and have advanced to upper management.”
Wage increases approved this summer boosted the starting pay to $11/hour for non-student wage employees and $12/hour for salaried workers. The department has more than 200 positions available for students, part-time non-students and full-time salaried employees.
“These positions also offer a lot flexibility and don’t require a commitment of 40 hours each week,” said Pontier. “We have shifts available that can accommodate most schedules, with a chance to work early mornings, nights, Monday through Friday, and/or weekends.”
The job openings are at 11 dining centers and range from kitchen management to entry-level positions. Many vacancies do not require food service experience, with training provided to applicants for their new role with the university.
All employees have free access to many campus resources like the gym at War Memorial Hall and the university libraries. Salaried positions include health care with dental and vision options, paid leave, overtime, and benefits through the Virginia Retirement System.
The department is also offering a $1,000 bonus to student employees who start before Oct. 1 and work 500 hours or more before April 30, 2020. To be eligible for the bonus, students need to be continuously employed throughout that time period and be an active and current employee at the end of April.
Dining Services is the largest employer on campus with 2,200 staff members, and is consistently rated one of the top university food service programs in the country, ranked fifth this year by Princeton Review.
