To accommodate ongoing construction on the Blacksburg campus and paving, there are numerous ongoing road closures. Visit the Campus Closures Map for the latest traffic and pedestrian impacts across campus. 

Please use caution around construction zones, use alternate routes when possible, and give yourself a little more time on your trips.

Latest traffic and pedestrian impacts

Kent Street – full road closure – May 26 - 29

Beginning May 26 through approximately May 29, both directions of Kent Street will be closed to all through traffic to accommodate chilled water infrastructure. Kent Street will be closed from Washington Street to Owens Lot Road. Wall Street will also remain closed.

Local access for emergency vehicles and deliveries will be available for Owens Hall and the Bookstore.

West Campus Drive – road closure (outbound lanes closed) – May 26 - June 22
Beginning May 26 through approximately June 22, the outbound lane of West Campus Drive from the New Classroom Building access road to the Inn at Virginia Tech access road will be closed for installation of chilled water infrastructure. There will still be inbound access on West Campus Drive.

Perry Street -  road closure - May 26 - June 22
Perry Street will be closed from West Campus Drive to Perry Street Lot 1 to accomodate chilled water infrastructure construction.

Turner Street - road closure - beginning May 26
Turner Street from Price Fork Road will be closed for appeoximately five weeks beginning May 26 for utility work related to the planned new construction on Gilbert Street. Turner Street from McDonalds to Private Drive will remain open. Employees and visitors of the North End Center and Collegiate will still be able to enter the garage from Private Drive or enter onto Gilbert Street at Wendy’s.  

Summer paving - May 6-25, 2020
Summer paving will begin on May 6 on the south side of the Drillfield starting at the entrance to West Campus Drive going all the way through the Drillfield roundabouts at Alumni Mall. Paving will also occur on Washington Street in front of the Hahn greenhouse going west past the entrance to Garden Lane. Flaggers will be on site throughout all of the paving to assist with traffic flow through the single lane closure. Please view the latest paving impacts here.

Stanger Street - road closure - June 29 - Aug. 14
From June 29 – Aug. 14, Stanger Street from Barger Street to the Perry Street extension will be closed for the chilled water infrastructure project construction. Loading dock access at the backside of Durham Hall will be maintained. 

Holden Hall construction
Continuing through approximately November 2021, there will be ongoing pedestrian, parking, and road impacts surrounding the Holden Hall capital construction site. Construction fencing will enclose parking spaces and the sidewalk on the south side of Old Turner Street, as well as portions of sidewalk south of Holden Hall, and the alley and walkway between Holden Hall and McBryde Hall. Five new ADA spaces will be created on Old Turner Street, outside McBryde Hall, to offset the loss of ADA parking spaces in front of Holden Hall. Please follow all signs.
