From: Division of Campus Planning, Infrastructure, and Facilities and Transportation Services
To accommodate ongoing construction on the Blacksburg campus and paving, there are numerous ongoing road closures. Visit the Campus Closures Map for the latest traffic and pedestrian impacts across campus.
Please use caution around construction zones, use alternate routes when possible, and give yourself a little more time on your trips.
Latest traffic and pedestrian impacts
Stanger Street – FULL road closure - July 13 - Aug. 12
There will be a full road closure related to the chilled water infrastructure project along Stanger Street from Barger Street to the Perry Street Extension. Loading dock and parking access to the back of Durham, Lavery, Randolph, and Kelly Hall will be maintained at all times, starting from northern Stanger Street and then switching to southern Stanger Street. Campus traffic between Prices Fork Road and central campus should use alternate routes such as Main Street and the Route 460-Bypass.
West Campus Drive – FULL road closure (inbound and outbound lanes closed) – July 29 – Aug. 7
July 29 – Aug. 7, all inbound and outbound lanes of West Campus Drive will be closed in the area near the New Classroom Building. The intersection with Perry Street will be open. Starting July 14 the access road to the Derring and Pamplin Parking Lot will be shifted from West Campus Drive to Perry Street near Bishop-Favrao Hall. Users of this entrance please enter and exit from Perry Street (see graphic below). This is for installation of chilled water infrastructure. Campus traffic between Prices Fork Road and central campus should use alternate routes such as Main Street and the Route 460-Bypass.
Turner Street - Road closure - July 13 – Aug. 10
Turner Street will be closed from Prices Fork Road to the North End Center parking garage entrance. Employees and visitors of the North End Center and Collegiate Square will still be able to enter the garage from entrance on Turner Street or enter onto Gilbert Street at Wendy’s.
Holden Hall construction
Continuing through approximately November 2021, there will be ongoing pedestrian, parking, and road impacts surrounding the Holden Hall capital construction site. Construction fencing will enclose parking spaces and the sidewalk on the south side of Old Turner Street, as well as portions of sidewalk south of Holden Hall, and the alley and walkway between Holden Hall and McBryde Hall. Five new ADA spaces will be created on Old Turner Street, outside McBryde Hall, to offset the loss of ADA parking spaces in front of Holden Hall. Please follow all signs. Please view the latest impacts here.
In light of the potential road delays, summer in Blacksburg offers great opportunities for other alternative transportation options such as walking through campus, Roam NRV bikeshare, or Blacksburg Transit. Please feel free to contact Nick Quint at email@example.com or 540-231-2701 for more information on alternative transportation.
