Campus traffic impacts: Summer 2019
May 17, 2019
From: Virginia Tech Operations
Due to summer construction, there will be several ongoing traffic disruptions around the Blacksburg campus.
Please use caution around construction zones, use alternate routes when possible, and give yourself a little more time on your trips.
Visit the Campus Closures Map for the latest traffic and pedestrian impacts across campus. A list of potential impacts can be found below:
Latest traffic and pedestrian impacts:
Campus-wide VDOT Road Line Painting: Between Aug. 13 and Aug. 14, VDOT will be on campus painting road lines. Traffic flow will be maintained by flagging. Expect delays.
Beamer Way: From Aug. 15-16, there will be a single lane road closure on Beamer Way, near Lane Stadium to accomodate paving repairs. Traffic flow will be maintained with flaggers.
Stanger Street Upper Parking Lot: Beginning July 8, the Stanger Street Upper Parking Lot will be closed through approximately Aug. 31 to accommodate the chilled water infrastructure project. ADA parking will be relocated within the lot.
Move-In Parking and Traffic: Between Aug. 21 and Aug. 24 new and returning students will move back on campus. View the latest impacts here.
Alumni Mall Outbound Lane: Between Aug. 23 and Aug. 24, A segment of Alumni Mall will be closed for GobblerNights events.
North End Center Garage: A summer project to upgrade all the light fixtures in the North End Center Garage will begin on May 20. The contractor will start work on level 6 and then progress towards level 1, one level at a time. All the drive lanes will remain open during the project, so a vehicle could, for example, still travel from level 1 to level 7. Only parking spaces will be impacted. Effective May 20, all of the parking spaces on level 6 will be closed until the contractor is finished with level 6. After which, half of the parking spaces on each subsequent level will remain open while the work is taking place. Please contact Parking and Transportation at 540-231-3200 with any questions.
Holden Hall: Between June 15, 2019 through approximately Nov. 2021, there will be ongoing pedestrian, parking, and road impacts surrounding the Holden Hall capital construction site. Construction fencing will enclose parking spaces and the sidewalk on the south side of Old Turner Street, as well as portions of sidewalk south of Holden Hall, and the alley and walkway between Holden Hall and McBryde Hall. Five new ADA spaces will be created on Old Turner Street, outside McBryde Hall, to offset the loss of ADA parking spaces in front of Holden Hall. Please follow all signs.
In light of the potential road delays, summer in Blacksburg offers great opportunities for other alternative transportation options such as walking through campus, Roam NRV bikeshare, or Blacksburg Transit. Please feel free to contact Nick Quint at 540-231-2701 for more information on alternative transportation.
