Road and pedestrian impacts: Creativity and Innovation District
February 15, 2019
From: Division of Operations
The campus community should be aware of ongoing pedestrian and road impacts in the area surrounding the proposed Creativity and Innovation District Living-Learning Community (CID LLC) next to the Graduate Life Center between Kent and Otey Streets.

Project fencing for CID LLC blocks Wall Street from through-traffic and closes a number of sidewalks between main campus and downtown, requiring pedestrians pass through the Graduate Life Center (the accessible route) or an alley along Wall Street. The project fencing will be in-place for the duration of construction through July 2021.
The majority of Kent Street, from Englewood Drive (Owens Lot access road) up to Washington Street, will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic from May 20 through August 11, 2019. Please click here to view the pedestrian detour routes.
Late Spring 2019:
The construction contractor is currently occupying the site and preparing it for construction. In the coming weeks and months, preliminary site and utility work will begin to occur. Full construction is expected to begin in summer 2019, pending final approval by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors. Construction is expected be completed in time for fall semester 2021.
Wall Street will be closed from Kent Street to Otey Street to accomodate construction. A portion of Wall Street will remain accessible to allow access to the private residences near the intersection with Kent Street.
Signage is in place highlighting the ADA-compliant pedestrian routes through the area.
Please visit the Campus Closures Map for the most up-to-date traffic and pedestrian impacts across campus. Follow all signage and flagging operations in place on the road. Additional information can be found at the facilities Campus Traffic Impacts site.
