May 10-Stanger Street, between Old Turner Street and Drillfield Drive, will be closed from June 5-30 while construction crews complete underground work on two storm sewer connections and one sanitary sewer connection. The work is in support of the ongoing renovation of the Liberal Arts Building. Crews will make every effort to shorten the duration  of the closure if possible. Pedestrian traffic around the work area will not be impacted. Read the Virginia Tech News article about the Liberal Arts Building renovation.

Blacksburg Transit bus stop partially closed until July 31

Feb. 27-Crews will be performing utilities work at the Blacksburg Transit bus stop on Drillfield Drive outside of Newman Library until July 31. Huckleberry Trail detour in place

July 20–The Huckleberry Trail will have a detour while a section of the trail is under construction beginning Thursday, July 21, at 7 a.m. The detour will be in place until construction is complete.

The section under construction is between the existing underpass under the old farm road and existing Research Center Drive.  The closure of this section of the trail is for the removal of the existing underpass and construction of a new underpass for the new Research Center Drive. Barricades will be installed at the closure points of the trail and detour signs will be installed to direct pedestrians and bikers along the proposed detour.  Pedestrians and Bikers should use caution as trucks and heavy equipment will be in operation in the area.

The detour will be:

  • From Blacksburg toward Rte. 460 underpass:   Turn left on Research Center Drive, right on Innovation Drive, right on existing Discovery Drive, left to underpass under Rte. 460.
  • From Rte. 460 Underpass toward Blacksburg:  Turn right on existing Discovery Drive, Left on Innovation Drive, left on existing Research Center Drive, then right onto Huckleberry Trail.
