As students and their families prepare for fall commencement, questions about the virtual ceremony and future events can be found on the commencement FAQs page.
The FAQs will be updated continuously to address questions about the ceremony and future ceremonies.
Some of the most common questions about commencement include whether fall graduates can walk in the spring and when a decision about the spring ceremony will be made.
It’s a tradition for all fall graduates to be invited to walk in the spring ceremony if they choose. Virginia Tech is closely monitoring conditions and adheres to state and local guidelines when making decisions about in-person gatherings, including spring commencement.
An update about spring commencement is planned in early 2021. If current conditions remain, it would not be possible to host an in-person event. The university considers all options and scenarios but must adhere to state and local public health guidelines.
It’s important to recognize graduates and all they have accomplished. Even if in-person celebrations are not currently permitted, the university is committed to doing this once it is safe to gather in large numbers.
