The Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost invites the Virginia Tech community to a reception to recognize and thank Rosemary Blieszner for her distinguished service as dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. Blieszner served as dean from September 2017 to July 2019 and has decided to return to the faculty this fall.

The reception will be held from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. on Aug. 27 in the Latham Ballroom at The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center. Those planning to attend must RSVP online no later than Aug. 20.

Blieszner, who also served as interim dean of the college from February to August 2017, has been a faculty member in the Virginia Tech Department of Human Development since 1981 and was named an Alumni Distinguished Professor in 2002. For more than 30 years, Blieszner helped lead the university’s Center for Gerontology as its associate director. She also served as associate dean of the Graduate School from 2009 until 2017, assistant vice provost for enrollment and degree management from 2015 to 2017, and director of strategic planning in the Office of the President from 2000 to 2001.

Following a national search, Laura Belmonte was appointed to serve as the new dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, effective Aug. 1.
