About 360 new cadets who make up the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets’ incoming Class of 2021 will arrive on campus on Saturday, Aug.19, to begin New Cadet Week training. Drivers should expect increased traffic on Alumni Mall, Turner Street, and Stanger Street.

New Cadet Week training will begin at 5:45 a.m. daily and will continue throughout the day throughout campus, particularly on the Drillfield and Upper Quad areas. Cadets may be seen with demilitarized (no firing pin) rifles.

On Friday, Aug. 25, all cadets will participate in a regimental run around the Drillfield, beginning at 6 a.m. Early morning drivers are urged to use caution when navigating the area.

The week will culminate with a parade marking the acceptance of the new cadets into the corps at 10 a.m. Aug. 26 on the Drillfield. During the parade, the Highty-Tighties, the regimental band, will play and Skipper, the Corps of Cadets cannon, will be fired.

If you are an individual with a disability who would like to attend the parade and desire an accommodation, please contact Nicole Ward at 540-231-6413 or email corpsofcadets@vt.edu during regular business hours at least 10 business days prior to the event.
