From: The Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign

The following is an open letter to Virginia Tech employees from Kelly Oaks, assistant vice president for Equity and Accessibility. Oaks is the honorary chair of the 2017 Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign.

Dear colleagues,

It’s hard to believe that winter break and the end of 2017 is almost here. With the end of the year, comes the end of this year’s Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

Let me say again how amazed and humbled I am at all of the support the Virginia Tech community has shown for the many organizations that will benefit from this year’s campaign. As of Friday, we had raised more than $325,000. That is absolutely incredible and is a true reflection of our motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).

With just a day or so to go to the end of our campaign, I am asking for just a little more help. We have just a little over $20,000 to go to meet our university-wide goal of $350,000.

I know we, as Hokies, can work together to meet that goal! Every donation – no matter the amount – counts toward helping the more than 1,000 organizations and programs that are part of the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign.

Donating is easy and is tax deductible! You can also direct your donation to specific charities that you care most about. Simply visit the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign web page for more information then make your donation through payroll deduction or paper pledge form using the resources on the webpage.

I look forward to providing a final report in early 2018 on our total fundraising for the year. I also want to express my sincere thanks for the opportunity to serve as the 2017 campaign honorary chair.

Please enjoy the upcoming winter break and have a happy, healthy and safe holiday season.

Kelly D. Oaks
