Sessions are quickly filling up for the “Fast Track for New Supervisors” program that begins in January 2020!

The Talent Development team is offering an opportunity for new supervisors who have been in their role less than six months to build the core competencies of Virginia Tech leadership to support the university’s aspirations for talent development and support new supervisors who are claiming their role.

The “Fast Track for New Supervisors” program consists of four modules which consist of classroom- and online-based instruction. The program is designed to provide meaningful, relevant, and practical knowledge, skills, and abilities to help new supervisors be on the fast track to success.

The four core modules include:

  • Leading Self: The Myers-Briggs Temperament Indicator is a powerful tool for unlocking relationships at work. You will learn how to leverage your preferred style with others to build more engaging interpersonal relationships and communicate more effectively.
  • Leading Others: Performance drives the success of teams and organizations. By learning how to create and sustain a culture of continuous improvement through performance management and talent development, you as a supervisor will add that critical element that takes your team from being good to great.
  • Leading Teams: The talent of leading teams excellently is critical to support strategic change through the university. Essential to this talent is the ability to facilitate change effectively, provide collaborative opportunities, and embrace constructive conflict. This module will improve your skills in the developmental areas critical to team success.
  • Leading Strategically: Knowing key resources is fundamental for all new supervisors to support less risky and more ethical legal decisions to furthering the university’s mission and vision. You will have the opportunity to discuss some of the most pressing issues with HR resources.
