Selective Service Registration Questionnaire goes digital

In a continuing effort to increase efficiency, Human Resources has announced updates to the Selective Service Registration Questionnaire completion process. The original questionnaire paper form, that all new hires complete, has been moved to an all-digital entry process. These changes streamline the onboarding process and continue the ongoing effort to reduce paper forms.

Changes to the Selective Service Registration Questionnaire include:

  • Employees hired through the PageUp system will complete the Selective Service Registration Questionnaire as part of the New Hire Form.
  • Employees can make changes any time by editing and re-certifying their answers.
  • Employees hired through position types such as P14, Emergency Hire, and Student Wage, will log into Hokie Spa and complete their questionnaire.
  • All Selective Service Registration Questionnaires feed directly into Banner, eliminating duplicate forms and/or misplaced forms, improving the overall new employee experience.

The Selective Service Registration Questionnaire is required for new hires to make sure Virginia Tech stays in compliance with the Commonwealth of Virginia’s code requiring successful registration with the federal Selective Service System Administration as a condition of employment. This compliance requirement applies to all new hires who were born male, are U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents, and are 18 years old or older. For an employee to check on their registration compliance with the government or to find a list of who should register, they can reach out to the Selective Service System by phone at 1-888-655-1825.
