From: Hokie Wellness

In today’s digital world, many parents wonder how they can keep their children safe online. On Friday, Feb. 24 employees are invited to learn more about one of today’s top parenting topics, cyber safety.

Randy Marchany, Virginia Tech’s information technology security officer, will present a session on cyber safety and security at the inaugural session of Hokie Wellness’ parenting series. The session will be held from 12-1 p.m. at North End Center (room 2420).

Marchany will advise participants on what children know about the digital world that many parents are unaware of, discuss which types of forensic information can be extracted from phones and tablets, and provide tips on how to be cyber smart.

Registration is required. To register, click “view by alpha” and search for “Parenting Series: Cyber Safety and Security”.

The goal of the new parenting series is to help parents navigate some of today’s most difficult parenting topics.

A different topic will be featured each month, including:

  • Mindful parenting for emotional well-being
  • Body image
  • Substance abuse
  • Sex and healthy relationships
  • Mental health and children
  • Healthy discipline strategies

The series is sponsored by VelocityCare: Urgent Care by Carilion Clinic.
