New Gmail interface integrates email, chat, meetings, and more
From: Division of Information Technology
Google is updating Gmail to integrate email, chat, rooms, and meetings into a single interface. These changes should make it easier to collaborate within the Gmail platform by allowing users multiple options for communication — mail, chat, or voice or video call — as well as providing the ‘Rooms’ features to allow groups to manage tasks and work together on projects and initiatives.
Google ultimately controls the moment when this new Gmail interface will become available to all users; however, Collaborative Computing Solutions (CCS) has already enabled the new interface for Virginia Tech accounts, so that you can start using it as soon as Google makes it available.
This resource from Google, “Get started with the new integrated Gmail,” offers video tutorials and best practices for using the new interface. Additionally, “10 things to know about the integrated Gmail experience,” can help you learn more about the features and benefits of the new Gmail interface.
